Everybody loves a red lip. It’s like the holy grail of everything classic. Is that going too far?
Anyway, achieving this look is not as easy as one may think. You can’t just slather any red color onto your lips, it has to be strategically thought out. Maybe this is too drastic for makeup, but it’s the truth. If you don’t have a red that complements your skin tone (or your eyes) nicely, you won’t accomplish the look you were going for.
Let’s take a look at what shade of red works best for you.
If you have…
A light/fair complexion
For those ladies with a porcelain skin tone, a red lipstick that has hues of orange is your new best friend. The orange mixed in makes it a lighter, brighter color, therefore complementing your skin tone nicely.
A medium/warm complexion
Now for my ladies with the sun-kissed glow, you’ll want to choose a red with more rosy tones. Think more pink-based. These are going to be the ones that are on the borderline of a pinkish-red.
A dark/rich complexion
And last but definitely not least, my ladies with the beautiful bronze tone, you’ll want to reach for a red with hints of berry shades. Deep purples, like violet or plum, work perfectly when mixed with red.
If you have…
Blue or green eyes
For all you blue-eyed and green-eyed babes out there, you match perfectly with our porcelain-skin ladies as you both need to choose a red with orange undertones. Or, if you’re feeling a bit wild, choose one with a violet undertone. Either way, those colors will always contrast effortlessly with your light colored eyes.
Hazel or brown eyes
My babes with the coffee colored eyes, let me ask you a question: which color contrasts nicely with brown? Purple! So, just like my bronze toned ladies, choosing a red mixed with berry shades like plum, contrasts nicely with your brown/hazel eyes.
